PALLAS reactor and the Energy and Health Campus

On the North Sea coast at Petten, one of the most important projects in European healthcare is being built: the PALLAS reactor. It will replace the High Flux Reactor, which has been running at the same site for more than 60 years.

Why the site matters

• Isotopes for patients: every day, more than 30,000 patients worldwide rely on medical isotopes produced in Petten

• A European supplier: the current High Flux Reactor supplies about 60% of Europe's and 30% of the world's medical radioactive sources

• Used against serious illness: the isotopes are used to diagnose and treat life-threatening illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases

• Less dependence on other countries: the new reactor is meant to secure future supply and make the Netherlands and Europe less dependent on other countries
